The African Football Confederation (CAF) has made a final decision on the controversial Afcon 2021 Group F match between Tunisia and Mali.
The Football Association has received an official complaint from the Tunisian team over referee Jany Sikazwe’s conduct during the match.
Zambian officials blew the full-time whistle with five minutes remaining in regulation and restarted the game after protests, but it ended again in the 89th minute.
Protests from the Tunisian team ensued, and CAF officials at the stadium ordered both teams to return to the pitch and finish the extra time with one minute remaining and a new referee.
However, the Tunisian players did not turn up and decided to lodge a formal complaint with CAF.
In a statement, CAF said it had turned down Tunisian protests and confirmed the match would not be played again.
The statement read:
“After considering the Tunisian protest and reports of all match officials, the Organizing Committee has decided:
– Dismiss the protest filed by the Tunisian team.
– Accept the match result as 1-0 in favor of Mali.
