Choi Jonghyup talks about ‘Unlock My Boss’, how an epilepsy diagnosis affects enlistment, and more!
Based on the webtoon of the same name, ENA’s “Unlock My Boss” is a unique comedy about unemployed job seeker Park In-sung (played by Choi Jong-hyeop) whose life changes when he gets a smartphone. It’s a thriller. Talk to him and give him orders. This smartphone traps the soul of Kim Sung-joo (Park Sung-woong), CEO of a giant IT company called Silver Lining, and follows Park In-sung’s journey to infiltrate the CEO’s office to find out the truth.
On January 12, “Unlock My Boss” aired its finale, garnering a national average rating of 1.4%, maintaining its highest ever score from the previous two episodes. Last week, Choi Jonghyup chatted with Star News about the ending of the drama.
The actor said, “I feel lonely and refreshed after the drama ended. ‘Unlock My Boss’ was a particularly special and meaningful project. The atmosphere on set was also great. I was able to show everything I had on the first set when the director asked me for my opinion. Thanks to that, I was able to move around freely. [camera] flame. “
About his love line with Seo Eun-soo, Choi Jong-hyup said, “In the drama, I appear as an AI-like character, but it’s the opposite of my true personality. I’m kind, bright, and positive. She was the first to approach me and talk to me. I am grateful for that.”
Touching on the kiss scene, Choi Jong-hyup explained that he only saw silhouettes in the scene, but Ahn Nae-sang said, “It doesn’t matter, come closer and do your best.” Choi Jong-hyup said, “I filmed while laughing with Seo Eun-soo. There was a lot of laughter, but Seo Eun-soo is very good, so I was able to shoot at once.”
Choi Jong-hyup revealed that no matter how much his character interacted with Park Sung-woon onscreen, the only time the two actors filmed together was near the end of the drama. When I met Park Sung-woong in 2018, I felt like “I finally finished the drama.” I was curious about every scene he played. I’m sorry.
The accomplished young actor, who recently won Best New Actor at the 2022 KBS Drama Awards, surprised interviewers when he revealed that he didn’t have big dreams while growing up. I wanted to live a happy and enjoyable life, but I almost didn’t have any dreams and lived as I was told.” His first dream was to be a model, but his goals changed after he was offered the opportunity to act.
Next, Choi Jonghyup talked about how studying abroad from the 9th grade helped him develop his character. She explained that while her parents suddenly sent her to Thailand and South Africa to study was disconcerting at first, it helped her develop a sense of independence and make decisions for herself.
Currently, Choi Jonghyup has a clear life goal of becoming a happy and healthy person. He smiled and elaborated. The moment he saw it, he became my goal and my dream. He’s both an actor and a person.”
Choi Jonghyup, who is about to turn 30, spoke frankly about enlisting in the military. He revealed he had been diagnosed with epilepsy and was approved to serve a military mission as a wartime labor service agent. Eligible for active duty. Choi Jonghyup said he experienced epilepsy for the first time while studying abroad and was officially diagnosed in 2018.
He said, “There were several times when I would foam at my mouth and collapse. [to enlist]obtained a grade 4 [meaning he is unfit for active duty]However, if you do not enlist within four years, you will have to take the exam again. Military is a sensitive topic.That’s why I wanted to make a full recovery, but the re-examination date was decided, so I had an electroencephalogram taken. [EEG] They said I have epilepsy. I am still taking medicine. ”
Choi Jonghyup, who has been in his fifth year since his debut, said, “I arrived too early and I know I’m not good enough. That’s why I’m working harder than ever.” Persistence and hard work.I don’t think of myself as the main character.I just took on the role of the character.Of course I know I have to take responsibility, but with the actors and the crew. The feeling of wanting to make it in the future is bigger.”
Following ‘Unlock My Boss’, Choi Jong-hyup is considering reuniting with Park Eun-bin, who co-starred in ‘Stove League’, in a new romantic comedy.
