2022 will be a turbulent year for the SEO industry, and it shows no signs of slowing down.
This year alone, Google removed eight confirmed and unconfirmed updates. This has forced many companies to adapt.
With so much volatility, how can you adapt your SEO strategy to keep it fresh and relevant?
How will this year’s algorithm changes affect your SEO strategy for 2023?
How can you prepare for Google’s next move and stay ahead of the curve?
On December 14th, I moderated a webinar with Pat Reinhart, VP of Customer Success at Conductor.
Reinhart has summarized the biggest SEO insights of the year and shared some expert predictions based on 2022 algorithm updates to reveal what the next year will bring.
Here is the webinar overview. Complete the form to access the full presentation.
Prediction #1: Google Volatility Continues to Increase

This year, and perhaps next year, has been pretty intense as algorithm updates are getting closer and closer together and they’re starting to roll out one after the other.

We will continue to test new features and result types.
what do you mean? Volatility is higher because more algorithmic changes occur in less time.
Three things to note:
- Updates are rolled out one after another and are more closely consecutive.
- Updates are starting to roll out more quickly.
- Google doesn’t care about your feelings anymore.

Next year, we’ll see even more testing and data requests from Google due to what’s happening with the younger generation, leading to our next prediction.
Prediction #2: Visual search will become more prominent
Gen Z will go to TikTok and Instagram for their search needs, effectively bypassing Google.
Google is changing to keep up with change.
Younger generations are more connected to visuals as they provide better experiences.
Therefore, Google is now using more visuals in search.
Three things to note:
- Take care of your image.
- create video content.
- Google is not the only search engine.

Prediction 3: More companies will take technical SEO seriously
Google wants to provide a great experience for its users, so it’s becoming increasingly important to make sure your site works on a technical level.
Many companies now realize that building systems to constantly monitor their sites and moving to an “always on” mentality is the solution.

Three things to note:
- Site health.
- your approach.
- Algorithms you are specifically targeting.
Prediction #4: Businesses will waste money on the metaverse
It’s unproven, so it’s wise not to invest in the metaverse just yet.
Three things to note:
- Not ready.
- no one is using it.
- It will probably be super weird and super fast.

Prediction 5: Everyone Will Forget Deprecating Universal Analytics
Everyone forgets that Universal Analytics will be retired on July 1, 2023.
Most predictions have a lot to do with algorithms, but ultimately they’re all about the content you create and the experiences you deliver to your customers, so make sure you can track them effectively in 2023.
