Globe warns customers against offering online SIM registration assistance and advises them not to share personal information to protect data security and privacy.
There have already been reports of individuals abusing the SIM registration requirement. They offer their services for free or for a fee through social media and request the SIM user’s name, photo, valid girlfriend ID, date of birth, mobile phone number and address.
Such personal information, if misused, can be used to impersonate its owner, access accounts, steal money, or commit other fraudulent activities. Identity thieves may open accounts in someone else’s name, accumulate debt, or commit crimes to worsen reputational and financial problems.
Globe Chief Privacy Officer Irish Salandanan-Almeida said: “Your personal information is valuable and we encourage you to protect it from anyone who seeks to use it for illegal purposes.”
Instead of asking strangers for help, customers can register their SIM for free at https://new.globe.com.ph/simreg. Registration via the GlobeOne app will also begin later this month. You may also ask trusted family members or friends for help.
From February 2023, Globe will also support registration sites for seniors, people with disabilities, pregnant women and users of basic or feature phones. The list of Grove registration sites will be announced through the official website in the coming weeks.
There are 87.9 million SIMs under the Globe network. More than 7 million people have registered so far.
To make the SIM registration process accessible and convenient for everyone, the company offers multiple registration channels. To avoid the risk of SIM deactivation, we recommend taking advantage of these options and completing his SIM registration by the April 26, 2023 deadline.
The SIM Registration Act, which requires mobile phone users in the Philippines to register their SIMs with their service providers, is being implemented to address the growing problem of fraud enabled by the use of anonymous SIMs.
