How do I use search metrics with GoDaddy Auctions?
Domains with SEO have become so valuable to platforms that offer expired domains that some big companies have started to integrate SEO metrics into their dashboards. Namecheap got there first (I’m pretty sure) and now the industry’s largest auction platform is adding these metrics as well.
If you regularly check GoDaddy’s fire hose for daily drop domains on third-party platforms such as ExpiredDomains.net, you may have missed recent updates to metrics displayed by GoDaddy’s auction marketplace.
See here:
The addition of “Majestic TF”, “Majestic CF”, “Backlink” and “Referring domain” are all new additions.
This post details what they mean and how to assign weight to each.
Majestic TF Metrics from Majestic.com (nice domain name!) where TF = trust flow. What the heck does that mean? Well, this is straight from Majestic:
trust flow Represents the quality of a URL or link to a websiteWeb pages with higher Trust Flow than Citation Flow usually have high quality links.
Therefore, the higher the trust flow number, the higher the quality of the domain’s backlink profile.
Majestic CF Short for Citation Flow, this measures:
The citation flow is A score that reflects the number of links to a particular websiteCitation Flow doesn’t care if the link is good or bad.
So this is a pure quantity, full stop measurement.
The number of backlinks and the number of referring domains are self-explanatory, but just in case:
You can have one referring domain, but that referring domain can generate hundreds or thousands of backlinks.
example:
Let’s say you receive a link from ToasterReviews.net (a fictional site) where your toaster product is mentioned in a review. It has one referring domain and one backlink.
Now let’s say your toaster review site has 200 pages/posts and instead of linking to one of them, you want to put a link to your site in the sidebar (in this example it will appear on all pages and posts ).
Now you have 1 referring domain and 200 backlinks.
Which of these metrics should you pay attention to?
The number of backlinks is negligible. If a site has 8 million backlinks from 2 referring domains, 8 million is less valuable than 2 referring domains as an indicator of his SEO power inherent to the domain. This is what many domain investors misunderstand when he talks about SEO in the context of why domains are valuable.
Likewise, the citation flow metric does not make for a very valuable metric. If your site has 10,000 very badly spammed links, you will have a very low trust flow, but a high citation flow (in theory).
This is the PSA for you domain investor: All SEO metrics can be manipulated to be higher than they should be, but TF is harder to manipulate than CF.
So if you’re looking for domains with high SEO value, sort by referring domain or trust flow and go from there. Don’t let the other two metrics fool you. While these metrics will undoubtedly provide valuable information to experienced SEOs doing deep SEO research, they are of little value in your search for portfolio-worthy domain names.
