Google still recommends not following footer credit links if you have control over the link. Therefore, any site designed or provided or created by Link Type should, if possible, not follow those links. If you can’t do that, don’t worry, Google added.
This question came up at the 19:05 mark in Google’s SEO office hours video yesterday. The question asked was, “Is a site-wide footer link referencing a designer company or CMS he harmful to SEO?”
Google’s Lizzi Sassman said:
“If you have control over the links, it’s a good idea to add nofollow to these kinds of links,” Lizzi added. She also added, “Check to make sure your anchor text is reasonable.
