One of the oldest myths about Google SEO is that clicking on a search result in Google Search boosts your rank. Google has never used click data for ranking purposes (other than the short-term Google+ data used in Google Search).
The question someone asked Google’s John Mueller the other day was, “Yes, it’s fine. It doesn’t help, but does it hurt?” If a large number of people click on your site every day in a Google search, will this lead to Google penalties?
The answer is no. No pain. It doesn’t matter if people click on your site in a Google search and try to manipulate his Google ranking for that site positively or negatively.
As Google has said many times, CTR doesn’t affect rankings and bot clicks don’t.

The company seems to be doing weird things, but that doesn’t mean I don’t do weird things myself.

I can’t imagine what effect that would have.
