popular SEO tools company Ahrefs Invested $60 million worth of data centers for a new search engine called “Yep” that could directly compete with the likes of Google. Bing When Yandex.
Ahrefs’ search engine, when launched, will be available in all countries and most languages, with a ton of processing power to handle the massive datasets it generates.
The company will also share 90% of ad revenue from search engines with content creators.
Alternative search engine
Ahrefs also announced the opening of its first data center in Singapore with approximately 1,000 servers storing and processing 100 petabytes of web data as part of the new search engine’s search infrastructure. End of 2022.
In 2019, Ahrefs founder and CEO Dmytro Gerasymenko announced plans to build an alternative search engine that shares 90% of advertising revenue with publishers.
“Creators who make search results possible deserve to be rewarded for their work. We have seen how YouTube’s profit-sharing model has made the entire video production industry thrive. By splitting ad revenue 90/10 with content creators, we want to help the search industry treat talent fairly,” said Gerasymenko.
“In other words, we store certain data in searches, but never in a way that can identify you personally. However, we do not create profiles for targeted advertising.”
The company also confirmed that its new search engine (currently in development) does not collect user personal information such as location, name, age, gender and preferences by default, but aggregated search statistics I plan to collect. Ahrefs has been crawling and storing data about the web for 12 years and has developed a web crawler called AhrefsBot that visits over 8 billion web pages every 24 hours.
